چکیده

The schedulability analysis problem for many realistic task models is intractable. Therefore known algorithms either have exponential complexity or at best can be solved in pseudo-polynomial time, thereby restricting the application of the concerned models to a large extent. We introduce the notion of “approximate schedulability analysis” and show that if a small amount of “error” (which is specified as an input to the algorithm) can be tolerated in the decisions made by the algorithm, then this problem can be solved in polynomial time. Our algorithms are analogous to fully polynomial time approximation schemes in the context of optimization problems. We show that this concept of approximate schedulability analysis is fairly general and can be applied to any task model which satisfies certain “taskindependence” assumptions. Lastly, we substantiate our theoretical results with experimental evidence and clearly show the tradeoffs between the running time of the schedulability analysis and the error incurred for various values of the input error parameter.

Near-Optimal Bandwidth Allocation for Fixed-Priority Scheduled Arbitrary-Deadline Sporadic Tasks upon Periodic Resources∗

Schedulability for compositional real-time systems has been the focus of a great deal of recent research. In this problem domain, we consider the fixed-priority (FP) scheduling of arbitrary-deadline sporadic task systems upon periodic resources. Existing exact or approximate schedulability tests for dedicated uniprocessor scheduling can be used in this setting by modeling the “no-supply period”...

Demand-based schedulability analysis for real-time multi-core scheduling

In real-time systems, schedulability analysis has been widely studied to provide offline guarantees on temporal correctness, producing many analysis methods. The demand-based schedulability analysis method has a great potential for high schedulability performance and broad applicability. However, such a potential is not yet fully realized for real-time multi-core scheduling mainly due to (i) th...

A faster exact schedulability analysis for fixed-priority scheduling

Real-time scheduling for task sets has been studied, and the corresponding schedulability analysis has been developed. Due to the considerable overheads required to precisely analyze the schedulability of a task set (referred to as exact schedulability analysis), the trade-off between precision and efficiency is widely studied. Many efficient but imprecise (i.e., sufficient but not necessary) a...

A Modeling Framework for Schedulability Analysis of Distributed Avionics Systems

This paper presents a modeling framework for schedulability analysis of distributed integrated modular avionics (DIMA) systems that consist of spatially distributed ARINC-653 modules connected by a unified AFDX network. We model a DIMA system as a set of stopwatch automata (SWA) in UPPAAL to analyze its schedulability by classical model checking (MC) and statistical model checking (SMC). The fr...

Schedulability Analysis of Timed CSP Models Using the PAT Model Checker

Timed CSP can be used to model and analyse real-time and concurrent behaviour of embedded control systems. Practical CSP implementations combine the CSP model of a real-time control system with prioritized scheduling to achieve efficient and orderly use of limited resources. Schedulability analysis of a timed CSP model of a system with respect to a scheduling scheme and a particular execution p...
